Gael Monfils Childhood : His father Rufin Monfils was a former Soccer player and he is from the island of Guadeloupe. His mother Sylvette was a nurse and she is from the island of Martinique. In 2002 he participated in the Dutch Junior Open and won the German Junior Open. He was ranked no 4 in the world level Junior.
In February 2004 he reached the world no 1 ranking in junior combined. In the same year he won the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon Grand Slam titles as a junior.
